  2. Jeremy Schwennen Says:

I believe New-X-Men: Academy X was retitled to just be New X-Men (Volume 2) after House of M (so starting at #20)? Just FYI. I too enjoy that book and its characters- I look forward to a NW/NXM crossover :-)

  3. Jeph! Says:

He’s right. And I could have sworn that we hashed this all out in the comments weeks ago…

  4. Corey Says:

There was some discussion on Sofia’s Checklist page as well, I think.

Since it’s only three issues, I’m probably not going to worry about it. But I may change my mind once I get the issues.

  5. Jeph! Says:

Technically, it’s not just three issues — it’s every issue. Go read the Checklist discussion again — exactly one of the twenty-two NXM issues Sofia appears in says “Academy X” in the indicia — and that’s the Yearbook. In every single regular issue of the series, the indicia reads ONLY “New X-Men”.

  6. James Hunter Says:

Yeah Jeph, We did hash it out over in the checklist discussion, I just forgot to knock of the “Academy X” bit when I copied and pasted from my word document, my mistake.

    Cheers.

    James.

  7. Corey Says:

Oh that’s right. I guess I inverted it in my head.

So is it technically New X-Men volume 2?

  8. Jeph! Says:

Gah. Noooo! I hate that “volume 2″ mentality.

It would only be “New X-Men volume 2″ if there was a title out there called “New X-Men volume 1″. And I really don’t think that the book Grant Morrison wrote qualifies.

Morrison’s title started its life as “X-Men” with #1, and it’s currently known as “X-Men” with #202. Yes, okay, it was titled “New X-Men” for forty-three issues, but no matter if you categorize it by original title or by current title, either way you’ll come up calling it “X-Men”.

To me, the only way a title owns a legitimate claim to a volume number is if it launched with a particular title, or ended with a particular title. If it started one way, changed its name for a bit and then changed back to what it started with — well, to me, that doesn’t count.

I consider the current NXM book to be “New X-Men volume 1 and only”.

And until the current book gets to issue #114, I think people will know which one you’re talking about if you list an issue number.

    -Jeph!

(By the way, did you know that the original “Thor” title started *and* ended as “Journey Into Mystery? So, by my logic … yeah. Heh.)

  9. Corey Says:

In general I’m not too worried about what the indicia says since the site is supposed to help people hunt for back-issues. Indicias typically aren’t viewable in the back issue bins.

But for the sake of your sanity, Jeph, I’ll indulge you on this one.

  10. Jeph! Says:

Nah, it’s your site. I’m just spewing my usual brand of OCD. :-)

For the record, though, the current “New X-Men” title DOES drop the “Academy X” logo from the cover after #19. So if nothing else, you probably ought to remove it from those three issues — after all, that’s the one bit of this that’s NOT debatable: there’s no such thing as “New X-Men: Academy X” #20-up.

    -Jeph!
