Loners line-up revealed

Wizard Magazine #181, released this past week, has a quick article with Loners writer C.B. Cebulski and a sketch of the team line-up by artist Karl Moline.

The article reports that the format of the project is a six-issue mini-series beginning Spring 2007.

Wizard asked Cebulski about the line-up. He replied, “we start with pretty much the same line-up as last time: Darkhawk, Ricochet, Turbo, Julie Power and Phil Urich. However, we will be bringing familiar faces from other parts of the Marvel Universe in, so there’ll be new blood joining the group.”

The article also discussed the Civil War ramifications to the title. “The effects of Civil War will not be directly apparent, but we’ll see them bubble up,” Cebulski told Wizard‘s Rickey A. Purdin. “The Loners is a group who have decided to live normal lives, so they’ve followed the events of the war with great interest. Their choices will come back to haunt them – one member in particular.”

Wizard published a sketch by Koline that reveals the line-up.

Left to right: Penance (from Generation X), Darkhawk, unknown, Turbo, Ricochet, Phil Urich, Spider-Woman (Mattie Franklin), and Julie Power.

Regarding the above image, Cebulski posted on Brian K. Vaughan’s message board. “Well, now that’s a shock! Every now and then Marvel leaks a ‘secret’ piece of artwork that they ‘weren’t supposed to show’ to help build buzz for an upcoming title. This is not one of those cases. Wizard was not supposed to run that piece of art. I hadn’t even seen it yet! Oh, well…

“Yes, now you see who’s on the team. Penance was not supposed to be announced this early. She was never supposed to be revealed actually; she was one of our big reveals. Damn. Still, I can work with it. There are plenty of quesitons [sic] about Penance left to be answered. Lots of mystery to still be debated. Tons of fun to be had with her!

“And no, that second character everyone sems [sic] to be guessing about is neither Jubilee or Scorpion. It’s actually someone much bigger. Heh Heh Heh… Keep guessing!”

The Wizard article also contained a character sketch of the mystery member by Moline.

Any guesses?

Penance……. I’m such a big fan girl! I hope they really do decide to bring Penance back! Six years or so of waiting has made Penance fans a little skeptical, to say the least. I even RP Penance in X-Men RPGs. ;D

Penance is back, but will her secrets finally be revealed. They will have a lot of work to do to make that work. She is such a captivating character. This just may make me collect a comic title again.

The mystery member…could she be Ogun, or perhaps the daughter of Ogun? Look at her mask.

  • PaxHouse  On December 8, 2006 at 1:31 pm

Well, Keith…..even though the mask does look familiar {especially for those that’ve read the KITTY PRYDE & WOLVERINE Miniseries}; according to the Writer, she’s the new SILVER SAMURAI…(AND as mentioned before, isn’t JUBILEE or the newest SCORPION)…..
