Added Amazing Spider-Man: Beyond Volume Four

In early 2022, Marvel wrapped up their Beyond saga in Amazing Spider-Man, concluding Ben Reilly’s second era as Spider-Man. Naturally Ben Reilly appeared throughout. Amazing Spider-Man vol. 5 #89-93 plus the #92.BEY tie-in issue were reprinted in the collected editions Amazing Spider-Man: Beyond Volume Four and Amazing Spider-Man Beyond Omnibus.

Ben Reilly‘s journey into the Beyond Corporation’s Spider-Man began with last year’s Free Comic Book Day special, and continued into Beyond Vol. 1, Beyond Vol. 2, and Beyond Vol. 3 before concluding here. During this time he also starred in a Death of Doctor Strange tie-in and a mini-series set during his first Spider-Man stint.

In Amazing Spider-Man vol. 5 #90, Ben Reilly appeared on 8 pages. As Spider-Man, Ben Reilly swung away from the Daily Bugle with Janine Godbe. Janine cold tell Ben was acting differently, like something was missing from him, but Ben insisted that they had to take action against the Beyond Corporation now. They agreed to split up and he dropped Janine off at the McCarthy Medical Center, while he headed for Staten Island, the base of Beyond’s Super Villain Program. Later on Staten Island, Ben was joined by Peter Parker as Spider-Man, and the two teamed up to take Beyond down together.

In Amazing Spider-Man vol. 5 #91, Ben Reilly appeared on 16 pages. Ben and Peter made their way through Beyond’s Staten Island facility, fighting all sorts of strange bio-engineered creatures. Ben’s missing memories worsened his state of mind, and he was having more difficulty focusing. Misty Knight and Colleen Wing arrived and joined forces with them, as Ben broke off from the group. Hacking into Beyond’s computer system backfired when a holographic projection of Maxine Danger appeared. She warned him to stand down, but Ben refused and called her bluff by opening Door Z. He then left to take down all of Beyond, leaving Peter, Misty and Colleen alone with a mutated Curt Connors as an enraged Lizard.

In Amazing Spider-Man vol. 5 #92, Ben Reilly appeared on 9 pages. Ben arrived at Beyond’s Manhattan headquarters, destroying the security system that once protected his apartment. After fighting through Beyond’s security guards, he was swarmed by the company’s bioengineered flying sandwiches. Janine arrived to help and the two planned their next move to bring Beyond down. Splitting up, Janine went to find their handler Marcus, and Ben went in search of Maxine Danger to get his memories back and with them regain his moral compass.

In Amazing Spider-Man vol. 5 #92.BEY, Ben Reilly appeared on 1 page. Making his way through Beyond’s security forces, Ben was confronted by the Slingers.

In Amazing Spider-Man vol. 5 #93, Ben Reilly appeared on 22 pages, plus 3 pages of memories/flashback. Ben fought his way through the Slingers and other Beyond security forces, and confronted Maxine Danger. She revealed that no copies were left of Ben’s memories at the request of Dr. Kafka and Ben to protect Peter Parker’s secret identity. However, she gave Ben a device that could transfer memories from Peter to Ben. He pushed back at her but discovered he was only talking to a holographic projection of her. Peter arrived at Beyond’s Manhattan headquarters, and Ben tried to get Peter to cooperate with using the device. Peter didn’t trust Beyond or their technology but offered to find another way but Ben lost control and in the battle seemingly fell to his death in Beyond’s destruction of their building’s lower levels. Days later, Janine found Ben in the tunnels beneath Beyond’s building. Months later, Ben and Janine were staying in a small apartment, and Ben’s memories and identity continued to collapse. He assumed a new costume and identity, Chasm.

All five issues were added to Phase Eight to Limbo Part 6.
